The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission's (NERC) second-quarter report indicated that the average energy offtake by DisCos fell to 3,197.03 megawatt-hours per hour. This represents a 3.40 per cent decrease compared to the first quarter of the year.
Despite the lower energy offtake, the DisCos achieved an overall offtake performance of 94.07 per cent against the available contracted capacity. During the quarter, they received 6,982.32 gigawatt-hours of electricity but billed customers for 5,812.31 GWh, resulting in an energy accounting efficiency of 83.24 per cent.
The total value of electricity billed to customers was N744.67 billion, with collections reaching N603.64 billion. This yielded a collection efficiency of 81.06 per cent, an improvement from the previous quarter. However, a gap of N141.03 billion remained between the amount billed and the amount collected.
Across the 11 DisCos, Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collection (ATC&C) losses averaged 36.23 per cent in the second quarter. This figure, while an improvement from the first quarter, was significantly higher than the 2026 target and resulted in an estimated revenue loss of N129.07 billion.
In terms of market obligations, the DisCos collectively owed N410.38 billion for generation and transmission services. They remitted N385.44 billion, leaving an outstanding balance of N24.94 billion, representing a market remittance performance of 93.92 per cent.
