The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to residents, traders, and food vendors against consuming or selling the recovered groundnut oil. Officials expressed concern that the oil may be contaminated with dirt, road pollutants, and substances from drainage channels, posing a risk to public health.

Preliminary reports suggest brake failure may have caused the tanker to overturn. LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki urged the public not to take the oil for cooking or sell it, emphasizing the potential health hazards.

LASTMA, alongside the police, Federal Road Safety Corps, and other emergency services, responded to clear the road and remove the tanker. No casualties were reported from the tanker incident itself. Motorists were directed to use alternative routes during the recovery operation, which caused traffic congestion extending to Otedola Bridge.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, a truck crash at Berger Bus Stop injured five people, who were taken to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre. LASTMA officials rescued the injured, and the vehicles involved were handed over to the police for investigation.
