The Katsina State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Alhassan Iliyasu, highlighted ongoing collaboration between security agencies, communities, and stakeholders. He stressed that defeating terrorism and banditry requires societal involvement, with every member playing a role in providing information and supporting security operations.
Iliyasu stated that the conference served as a platform for intelligence-led organizations and security agencies to review emerging threats, share experiences, and develop updated strategies for curbing banditry and related criminal activities. He noted that enhanced collaboration among security agencies, community security structures, vigilante groups, and other stakeholders would significantly improve responses to security threats.
Brigadier-General Ishaya Ibrahim, Commander of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Katsina, described synergy among security agencies as an imperative due to the evolving and borderless nature of terrorism. He pointed out that military firepower alone is insufficient, and actionable intelligence is crucial for operational success, as terrorists exploit information and coordination gaps.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, represented by his Deputy, Faruk Lawal, reported significant security improvements in Katsina State through a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic measures. He attributed this progress to the cooperation between conventional security agencies and the state’s Community Watch Corps, alongside substantial investment in non-kinetic interventions to address socio-economic drivers of insecurity.
The governor urged security agencies and the media to be strategic in communicating security developments, cautioning against reports that could inadvertently amplify the activities of criminals. He appealed to the media for responsible coverage that boosts public confidence and the morale of security personnel in the region.
