Speaking at the first Defence Space Administration (DSA) Day, themed ‘Space Power and National Security,’ the CDS acknowledged the DSA's accomplishments. These include the launch of DelSat-1, the creation of geospatial intelligence infrastructure, and the establishment of a Modular Earth Observation Outpost. Academic activities have also begun at the Defence Space School.
General Oluyede urged the DSA to enhance indigenous research and development, ensure the reliability and security of space-derived products, and integrate them more deeply into military operations. This is crucial for addressing contemporary security threats.
He further stressed the importance of collaboration between the Armed Forces, academic bodies, industries, and government agencies. Such partnerships are vital for accelerating local innovation and expanding Nigeria's ability to leverage space technology for both defense and national development.
The Chief of Defence Space Administration, Major General Philip Ilodibia, highlighted the need for better synergy among the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force to improve joint operations. He also called for continued cooperation with agencies like the National Space Research and Development Agency and Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited to advance Nigeria's space capabilities.
